Getting a new device for Christmas is great, but it’s even better when you can use it straight away!
If you’ve purchased a Spacetalk watch as a gift, this guide will help you get everything set up so your loved one can use it as soon as they tear off the wrapping paper.
Getting it ready
Setting up a Spacetalk device is easy!
Here are three things you can do to make sure the watch is set up and ready to go from day one.
Activate a SIM
Just like a regular phone, Spacetalk smartwatches need a SIM card to function.
To make this as easy as possible, we’ve included a JumpySIM card with every Spacetalk watch so you can get connected quickly and easily.
You can contact our customer service team to claim your JumpySIM card If you got your watch through one of our retail partners and didn’t receive one.
You can learn more about SIM cards on the support page of our website and clicking on the device you want to set up.
Please note: SIM activations can take longer on Christmas day, so we recommend getting connected as soon as you can, preferably a few days before Christmas, to avoid any delays and disappointment.
Download the app
The Spacetalk app is the nerve centre for all our devices.
Watch settings can be customised and managed straight from the app, including all-important safety features such as GPS Location on Demand, Safe Zones and the Safe Contacts list.
Make sure you’ve got everything ready to go by downloading the app, creating an account as well as a profile for the watch user.
The app will also be necessary to pair the watch to your phone. You can find pairing instructions for your device on our support pages by clicking Spacetalk App and then selecting Devices.
Check for software updates
To make sure our watches are as up to date as possible, we occasionally introduce software updates on our watches.
Updates will happen overnight which is why it’s important to pop your devices on charge so these updates can be installed successfully.
You can also manually check for updates by tapping on the settings menu on the watch and then tapping Software Update.
There are a few things you can do to make sure your Spacetalk device is always up to date and running at an optimal level.
Charge it every night
No one likes a flat battery. Get kids into the habit of charging their Spacetalk every night, just like you would with a regular phone.
You can even set reminders on the watch to remind them to charge it- genius!
Choose the location frequency that works for you
Spacetalk’s Location on Demand feature sends automatic location updates straight to your phone- handy if you want to keep an eye on kids travelling to and from school or to a friend’s house.
You can customise the frequency of these location updates via the Spacetalk app, from every five minutes to every hour.
Decide which features you want your child to have access to
We all know phones can be a massive distraction. That’s why we created School Mode, a feature that turns off certain watch functions during school hours so kids can learn without distractions.
School Mode days and times are completely customised in the app, and you can choose which features your child can and can’t use while School Mode is enabled.
You can find School Mode under General in the Settings menu on the Spacetalk app.
